Luis Olivas
Luis Olivas (He/Him/Él) is a first-generation student, a first-generation Nebraskan, as well as a DACA recipient. Born in Chihuahua, Mexico he emigrated to the United States when he was seven years old and became the first person in his family to graduate from high school. After having faced deportation in 2012, Luis became a staunch advocate for the rights of students, DACA recipients and the undocumented community in his home state and across the nation.
He is a proud graduate of Central Community College in Columbus, NE; he also holds degrees from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. He is currently a doctoral student at the University of Nebraska specializing in Educational Administration and Higher Education. He is currently the inaugural Associate Dean of Students for Inclusion & Belonging at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in Pennsylvania.
Luis has been a contributor for Buzzfeed News, Univision, Telemundo, and NPR. Luis and his spouse Ashley live in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
