The 109th Legislative session kicked off on Wednesday morning with an opening ceremony that included a presentation of the flag by the Color Guard and an appointment of Temporary Officers. The first day of this 90-day session also saw the introduction of 17 new Senators. These Senators are, Senator Rob Anderson, Senator Stan Clouse, Senator Dunixi Guereca, Senator Bob Hallstrom, Senator Margo Juarez, Senator Dan Lonowski, Senator Dan McKeon, Senator Glen Meyer, Senator Jason Prokop, Senator Dan Quick, Senator Victor Rountree, Senator Tony Sorrentino, Senator Ashley Spivey, Senator Tanya Storer, Senator Jared Storm, Senator Paul Strommen, and Senator Dave Wordekemper.
The second day of this regular Legislative session, 1/9/2025, commenced at 10:00 AM and saw the introduction of 84 bills. Some of these bills include a proposal by Senator Loren Lippincott to return Nebraska to a “winner-take-all” state, a proposal by Senator Megan Hunt to observe year-round Daylight-Saving Time, and a proposal by Senator Merv Riepe which would require pregnant women to get tested for Syphilis in their third trimester.
The third day of this regular session, 1/10/2025, commenced at 10:00 AM and has seen the introduction of another 29 bills so far with more to be introduced as the day goes on. Some of the bills introduced today include a proposal by Senator Jana Hughes which would change the requirements for motor vehicle windows, a proposal by Senator Kathleen Kauth to adopt the Stand With Women Act, and a proposal by Senator George Dungan to change provisions relating to the discovery of information contained in electronic devices and to expert witnesses in criminal cases.
As it currently stands, we have seen over 100 bills introduced this week alone! So make sure you are watching this session to ensure you are up to date on everything that is happening.
