This year, Congressman Don Bacon has selected the Suarez-Delgado family to be honored at the annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, which will take place on October 6th from 2-4 PM at the Nebraska Early Childhood Collaborative in Omaha, NE. We are thrilled to see Commissioner Jaime Suarez and his family receive this well-deserved recognition for their dedication and impact within the Latino community.

We invite you to read below to learn more about their inspiring journey, shared in their own words.

The Suarez-Delgado Family: A Journey of Devotion and the American Dream

We want to share a story of resilience, devotion, and the pursuit of opportunity—the story of the Suarez-Delgado family. Their journey is one that reminds us of the enduring promise of the American Dream.

It begins with Jaime Suarez-Reyes, born in Mexico. As a young boy, Jaime visited the United States on a family vacation to Disneyland. That experience lit a spark in his heart. He decided then and there that one day, America would be his home. In 1983, as he began raising a family with his wife, Patricia Delgado de Suarez, he set his dream into motion.

The path was anything but easy. The process of immigrating took seven years of perseverance, paperwork, and determination. Finally, in 1990, Jaime and Patricia arrived in Omaha, Nebraska, with their four children—ready to begin again, full of hope for a new chapter.

Life in America demanded courage and adjustment. The Suarez children entered school, learning English and embracing the culture of their new home. With the support of kind neighbors and welcoming friends, the family grew in confidence and in faith in the promise of freedom and opportunity.

Jaime worked tirelessly to support his family. His early jobs included shifts in a meatpacking plant, cleaning offices, and selling cars at H&H Ford. As his English improved, new doors opened. He became a Realtor, an insurance agent, and a banker. Yet his true calling was entrepreneurship. He ventured into the restaurant business and steadily expanded into other enterprises, building the foundation of a legacy that his children would carry forward.

But Jaime’s success was never only about business—it was about service. Together with Patricia, he served at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, teaching pre-marriage classes and, in 1995, becoming ordained Family Life Ministers. He volunteered in Millard Public Schools as a translator, mentor, and soccer coach. He helped Hispanic students attend national leadership conferences, ensuring that opportunity extended beyond his own family to the wider community.

From this example of faith and sacrifice, the Suarez children forged remarkable paths of their own.

Jaime Suarez Delgado, a Creighton Prep and UNO alumni, stayed in Omaha to continue the family’s entrepreneurial tradition. Today, he operates 13 restaurants and co-founded real estate development and construction companies. He serves on nonprofit boards, including One World Community Health, and has been appointed to the Nebraska Latino Commission and the Omaha Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission. With his wife Jackalyne, he is raising three sons who attend Creighton Prep, preparing them to make their own impact.

His brother, Adrian Suarez Delgado, also remained in Omaha. A graduate of Creighton Prep and Creighton University, Adrian today serves as CFO of the family businesses, managing more than 100 employees. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the Omaha Public Library. With

his wife Jessica, he is raising two children in a dual language academy, preserving both heritage and opportunity.

Their sister, Lorena Suarez-Kelly, pursued a career in medicine. A graduate of Marian High School, the University of Rochester, and UNMC, she became a surgeon specializing in complex abdominal oncology. Today, she serves as a faculty member at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. With her husband, Mike, she is raising two sons and a daughter.

And finally, Paulina Suarez Delgado chose a career in nursing. Now a registered nurse in Warren, Ohio, she and her husband Mike run two gyms and manage an office building that supports nonprofits. Together, they are raising their family with grit, resilience, and service.

The story of the Suarez-Delgado family reflects the best of the American spirit. From humble beginnings to professional achievements, from Omaha to Las Vegas to Ohio, their legacy is one of faith, family, and community.

Their journey began with a boyhood dream of America, took root through sacrifice and perseverance, and today flourishes in the lives of children and grandchildren who continue to build, to serve, and to give back.

This is not the conclusion of their story—it is only the continuation. And it stands as proof that the American Dream is alive, that it endures, and that through resilience and devotion, it can be carried forward for generations to come.
